THORNTON YOUTH BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

Code Of Conduct

PLEASE remember that you represent your family, your city and your league.

 I pledge to conduct myself in accordance with this Code of Conduct:

·         I will abstain from being under the influence of or in possession of alcoholic beverages and/or any illegal substance on both the game and practice facilities.  This includes any substance deemed illegal by the school district in which games or practices take part in.

·         I will not engage in taunting, profanity or other un-sportsmanlike conduct.

·         I will not abuse the officials and will treat them with respect.

·         I will accept decisions of the game officials (including referees and coaches) on the court as being fair and called to the best ability of said officials.

·         I will encourage good sportsmanship by exemplifying positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game and practice.

·         I will remember that the game is for children, and not for adults.

·         I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of any "personal" desire to win.

·         I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.

·         I will provide support for coaches and officials working with my child to provide an enjoyable, positive experience for all.

·         I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans & officials with respect regardless of ability.

·         I will respect the rights of other spectators so they may also enjoy the game.

·         I will not express complaints about coaches, referees, players, or league officials in the stands or to the coaches or league officials in front of or around the children. (i.e. right after a game or practice.)  Please observe the 24 hour rule as outlined in the TYBA Bylaws Article XIII Section I, Letter D.

I also agree that if I fail to abide by the above guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to

·         Verbal warning issued by an official, Division Director, or member of the Executive Board.

·         Written warning issued by the Division Director or the Executive Board.

·         Ejection from the gym or any gym where league activities are taking place by the Director or Executive Board member present.

·         Suspension from TYBA events, games or even the season if so determined by the Executive Board upon a hearing.

·         Removal of future consideration to participate or attend TYBA events for a time period determined by the Executive Board up to and including lifetime. up to but is not Limited to Player and Parent.

The Athlete’s Code:

I will: emphasize the ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play.  Show courtesy to my opponents and officials.  Give complete allegiance to my coaches who are the instructional authority for my team. Discourage fans, fellow players, and parents from undercutting my coach’s authority.     

I will not: Use profanity or talk “trash” before, during or after any game.  Use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.  Criticize my teammates, opponents, or act any way that may incite spectators. 

Parent’s Code:

I will: Support my child’s team and teach the value of commitment to the team.  Emphasize the ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play.  Help my child and the TYBA make athletic contests a positive educational experience.  Show courtesy to opponents and officials.  Direct constructive criticism of the TYBA, officials, or coaches to the Divisional Director in writing, while observing the 24 hour rule in the TYBA Bylaws Article XIII, Section I, Letter D.  Work with TYBA Divisional Directors or Executive Board members toward a positive result for all concerned.

I will not: Criticize, direct abuse, or profane language toward officials, coaches, or members of the TYBA Executive Board or otherwise subvert their authority.  Intrude onto the court, or bench area, or yell from the bleachers at or to the coaches, referees, or administration.

 

I have read the TYBA Code Of Conduct and understand what is expected.
